

Metchosin is a rural community with giant parcels of land. It includes areas such as Albert Head, William Head, Rocky Point, Happy Valley & Kangaroo Road.
Horseback riding, nature trails & parks are common in the district, which also offers a lot of golf courses. Matheson Lake is popular for swimming & hiking. Witty's Lagoon is an oceanfront area for a variety of sports & for relaxation. Pedder Bay is widely known for its fishing & Metchosin is the setting for Pearson College, which attracts students from all over the world.
Sooke was incorporated in 1999. Sooke is divided in to distinct areas known as Sooke Village, East Sooke, Broomhill, Saseenos, Sooke River, Whiffin Spit and "the West Coast Road". There is a growing business section in the downtown core, schools, sports facilities and a museum.
Sooke offers a variety of recreational activities which reflect its natural surroundings. Excellent fishing, boating, hunting, hiking and horseback riding is available. The area contains an abundance of lakes, parks and nature trails including the Galloping Goose park, East Sooke Park, Sooke Pot Holes, the Sooke Harbour, the world-renowned West Coast and Juan de Fuca Trails as well as Botanical Beach at Port Renfrew. Sooke also offers surfing and whale watching.

Rounding off the compliment of educational facilities there is the Metchosin Pre-school.

FUN FACTS
The name Metchosin is the anglicised version of the native "Smets-Schosen", which means "place of stinking fish". Local legend maintains that many years prior to the Europeans' arrival, an orca beached and died, and that everywhere that could smell it rotting became part of Metchosin.
Metchosin is also home to the Albert Head Air Cadet Summer Training Centre at CFB Esquimalt, the main training centre for Royal Canadian Air Cadets in British Columbia.
Well-known destinations in Sooke, such as Whiffin Spit Park, the Sooke Potholes Regional Park, and adjacent Sooke Potholes Provincial Park attract visitors both locally and from around the world
